Celebrating and honoring the life of Danny Lee Rider.
Norman, Oklahoma - Danny Lee Rider was born to Ervin Rider and Wanda (Nickels) Stockton on December 22, 1950 in Purcell, Oklahoma. He went to be with the Lord on August 8, 2025, at the age of 74 with his family by his side. Dan graduated from Norman High School in 1969. After high school, he was drafted into the US Army and served as an armorer in Vietnam from 1970 to 1971. After coming home from Vietnam and honorable discharging from the US Army, he joined the Norman Fire Department and worked as a framer. For the rest of his professional life, he owned a painting and construction company.
He met the love of his life, Terri, in Norman at the original O'Connells in February 1983 where she was waitressing. The two would get married just four months later on May 27, 1983. Dan and Terri had two children, Eric and Megan.
After getting married, Dan and Terri started their lives together in Norman, they moved to Phoenix for a few years then landed back in Oklahoma. They lived in Purcell, Oklahoma from 1992 until 2005 and were members of Purcell United Methodist Church.
Dan and his family enjoyed weekends and summers in Sulphur, eventually moving there fulltime in 2005. While in Sulphur, the family were members of Sulphur United Methodist Church. Dan and Terri started a lunch for the youth at the church on Wednesdays during the school year and were also members of the Crosspoint Emmaus Community.
Dan enjoyed fishing, bird watching, cowboy shows, cooking and most importantly spending time with his wife and kids.
Dan is survived by his wife of 42 years, Terri; son Eric Rider and wife Shyla of Norman; daughter Megan Steely and husband Blake of Noble; grandchildren Wyatt Steely, Kinlee Pyzer, Oakley Rider and Tuck Steely; sisters Sandra Cherry and Sherry Sager; parent-in-laws Sonny and Margo Webb; brother-in-law Bud Webb and wife Pam; along with many nieces and nephews.
He is proceeded in death by his parents Kenneth and Wanda Stockton and Ervin Rider; brothers Terry Rider and Randall Rider.
The family would like to thank the Norman Veterans Center for caring for Dan in the final years of his life.
